Abstract: This paper presents the theoretical basis and an original program conceived in Borland Delphi which allows calculating the thawing duration of logs, the animated simulation of the thawing process and plotting the graph of dependence between the thawing duration and the thawing depth. The program is based on the heat conduction equation with changing state of water, for assortments with cylindrical shape. This takes into account the following factors of influence: wood species, log diameter, initial temperature and moisture content of wood, treating environment and its temperature. The program is an easy instrument to use and a practical tool for fast determination of the thawing duration of logs.
