Abstract: The paper presents some aspects related to the use of MDF panels for furniture manufacturing, respectively with regard to achieving a good-quality gluing. Within a broader research, determination of the absorbtion degree, the wettability and their dependency on the sanding paper grit was performed. The obtained results revealed that, before veneering, the MDF panel has to be re-sanded in order to re-activate the surface and to achieve a roughness degree compatible to that of the veneer, as well as in order to increase the wettability and finally, to achieve more resistant gluings at a lower specific glue consumption.

Key words: MDF, absorbtion degree, wettability, sanding.
