Abstract: Circular sawing machines are amongst the more dangerous tools, especially when they are used by less experienced staff or laypersons. Up to now, there are existing only safety systems for light table saws. Therefore was on the sector of dimension saws a need to increase the safety at work with this machines.
The new safety system for dimension saws "Cut-Stop" consists of two components: a device which detects human extremities in the danger area and triggers a mechanism, which stops the rotating saw blade in a time period as short as possible.
A functional model was developed, which consists of a modified dimension saw. The hand detection device is able to identify most of the usual movements of hands in direction to the danger area. The brake system stops the tool in case of danger in an adequate time span. This safety system will be integrated and optimised in established circular saw machines.

Key words: safety, circular saws, detection of hands, accident prevention, brake.
