Abstract: Considerable changes in the field of wood preservation force us to develop new, alternative methods and chemicals for wood protection. Standard methods were designed for testing of classical wood preservatives; therefore sometimes they do not fulfil the requirements of the new demands. Some techniques that are used in daily assessment of biocidal products and impregnated wood in Department for Wood Science and Technology at Biotechnical Faculty of University of Ljubljana are presented here. Those methods can give us some basic information why certain treatments protect wood against wood decay fungi, or they elucidate reasons for ineffectiveness.

Key words: testing, wood decay fungi, laboratory tests, wood.
