Abstract:
In this study, chemical characterization of the spruce bark using an extraction protocol that consists of sequential extraction with solvents of increasing polarity (diethyl ether, ethanol, hot water, 1% NaOH) was performed. The results show that the highest values for the extractives are reached when extra fine bark particles are used (the fraction of the particle size less than 0.25 mm). In this case the total extractives content is 54.1%, while for bark fraction with particle size of 0.25-1.00 mm the extractives content is 40.2%. Key words: extraction, bark, spruce, diethyl ether, ethanol, hot water and 1% sodium hydroxide. |
