Abstract:
In fact, wood is at present a re-discovered material due to the technical progress of wood engineering (wood craftmanship), and also due to its "warm" aspect and the ecological preocupations of the public. Wood participates also to the renewal of the architectural quality of buildings within urban and rural environments.
This paper is the beginning of a serie of ten, concerning knowledge on wooden bridges. The proposed serie of articles covers the assembly of most of the domains which are necessary to be known in order to employ wood at its best for wooden constructions. The serie comprises:
- Part 1: Historical Background (3 numbers)
- Part 2: Recent Works (4 numbers)
- Part 3: Durable Conception (2 numbers)
- Part 4: Research and Development (1 number).
The author is open to any observations meant to improve the quality of his publications. Key words: wooden bridges, wooden constructions, history. |
