Abstract:
It is a known fact that sawing by means of circular saw blades is usually performed “against the feed”. However, there are situations when this operation is done “in feed direction”, like in: crosscutting-sectioning operations (usually performed on saws with manual feed), multiple ripping (made on some multi-blade rip-saws for prisms), sizing of veneered or melamine-faced panels. Unfortunately, no comparative studies have been carried out concerning the energy consumptions involved by the two sawing modalities, assuming absolutely identical working conditions (wooden material, machine, tool, devices, cutting conditions). It is this lack in reference literature which the present paper tries partially to fill in.
Key words: wood sawing, sawing “against the feed”, sawing “in feed direction”, energy consumption.
