Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to present the results of an experimental research regarding the behaviour of the geometry of profiled milling cutter edges during the milling process. Both the quality of processed surfaces and the geometry of cutter edges depend on the tool wear. In order to elucidate this influence, five different wood species were processed under different cutting conditions. The conclusions drawn after processing the experimental data obtained with regard to surface quality, allowed defining some recommendations concerning the improvement of the tool design in case of profiled milling cutters for wood.

Key words: profiled milling, wood processing, roughness, surface quality, height of irregularities, cutting conditions, edge geometry, laser beam
